Balipatna, May 13: Vegetable vendors protested against police action at Dhanahara weekly market in Balipatna area on Thursday. The Balipatna police said that the vendors were asked to maintain social distance which was not being followed.
A team of police visited the weekly market to check the enforcement of lockdown guidelines and found that people were not following the social distancing norms.
Police asked them to maintain social distance and warned them to impose fine if they fail to follow the guidelines.
This irked the local vendors and they staged protest by blocking the Balipatna-Banamalipur road. They also threatened to shut the market during the lockdown period.
“We were not allowed to sell vegetables here. This is not right. Some locals alleged that we were not maintaining social distance in the market. What can we do if people don’t follow social distance,’’ said a vendor.
On being informed, the Balipatna police station IIC reached the market and pacified the irate vendors.
