Haridwar, July 27: In a tragic incident, at least six people were killed and several others sustained grievous injuries in a stampede at the revered Mansa Devi Temple in Uttarakhand's Haridwar on Sunday.
Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the deaths, stating, "I am heading to the site."
As per reports, thousands of devotees had thronged the sacred temple owing to the ongoing holy month of Shravan. The large congregation of devotees led to overcrowding and soon the situation turned chaotic when people started pushing each other while standing in queues.
This caused panic and a sudden rush leading to a stampede.
Rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene. Medical staff and ambulances reached the spot without delay, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Officials said that relief efforts are still going on and the situation is under close watch.
