Bhubaneswar, April 17: Department of Steel and Mines has allotted Utkal-e coal block to National Aluminium Company(NALCO) on Saturday. According to the notification of the department on April 12, Utkal-e Coal block has been leased out in favour of NALCO. Utkal-E coal mine that comprises a coal belt of 523.73 hectares in Angul district in Kundajhari Jungle, Kosola and Koroda village under Chhendipada block. It treasures around 70 million tons of power grade coal. It will cater the fuel need of the captive power plant (CPP) of NALCO located in Angul. However, NALCO will primarily produce 2 million tons of coal per year, says an official. Notably, Odisha Government had rendered Utkal-D coal mine to NALCO in March 2021. Taking the newly got mines into account, NALCO treasures a fuel mine of around 175 million ton capacity so far.
