New Delhi, Jan 20: Indian National Congress on Thursday announced the second list of candidates for 41 Assembly seats for the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Poonam Pandit who was an active participant of farmers agitation and Sangeeta Tyagi, wife of former Congress spokesperson, late Rajiv Tyagi are among 16 women candidates.
Sangeeta Tyagi will be contesting from the Sahibabad Assembly constituency. “Priyanka Gandhi is committed towards her promise to give 40 per cent tickets to the women workers,” a senior functionary of the Uttar Pradesh Congress said.
Adding up today’s list, the Congress party till now has announced a total of 166 candidates for the first two phases of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
The elections to the 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases starting February 10.
The polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, and March 3 and 7 in seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
