Sundergarh, July 31: A day out at a popular tourist spot turned tragic for three friends after two of them were swept away by the strong currents of the Ib River while bathing at Ghoghar in Balishankara, under Talasara police station limits in Odisha’s Sundergarh district.
The incident occurred when the trio Jayanarayan Patra, Roshan Paswan, and Akash Sahu — all residents of the Gobindpur police station area in neighbouring Sambalpur district, visited the scenic site for a swim.
According to reports, while bathing in the river, all three slipped and were dragged by the powerful current. Akash Sahu, who is a skilled swimmer, managed to swim back to safety. However, his friends Jayanarayan and Roshan were unable to withstand the force of the river and were swept away.
Soon after the incident, locals alerted authorities. The Balishankara Fire Department rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, at the time of filing this report, the two youths remain missing.
