Two years of BJP rule in Odisha: CM Majhi highlights development, welfare and vision for 2036

Bhubaneswar, June 12: Marking the completion of two years of the BJP government in Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today presented an extensive report card of his administration, highlighting achievements across sectors.

Addressing the media, the Chief Minister thanked the people of Odisha for their trust and support and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building a “Prosperous Odisha” by 2036.

Majhi said that since assuming office in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi two years ago, the government has focused on direct engagement with citizens, understanding their aspirations and shaping policies accordingly.

He stated that a clear roadmap has been prepared to transform Odisha into a developed state, with strong support from the Centre under what he described as the “double-engine government.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that development should benefit every section of society, particularly the poor, and noted that his government has launched 121 new schemes, programmes and initiatives during the past two years.

He asserted that visible changes have already taken place across the state and that people are now more optimistic about their future.

Women’s empowerment featured prominently in his address. Majhi highlighted the Subhadra Yojana, approved in the government’s first cabinet meeting, under which more than ₹20,600 crore has been provided to women beneficiaries.

He also referred to initiatives such as Kanya Bibaha Yojana, Kanya Sumangala Yojana and expanded financial support to Self-Help Groups. According to him, over 23.5 lakh women have emerged as “Lakhpati Didis,” strengthening their economic independence.

On agriculture, the Chief Minister described farmers as “annadatas” and outlined measures aimed at increasing their income and productivity. He cited record paddy procurement from more than 18 lakh farmers and announced the launch of the Mukhyamantri Annapurna Yojana.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries of food security programmes will receive an additional 5 kg of rice free of cost, benefiting over 3.28 crore people across the state.

Education and healthcare were identified as key pillars of the government’s development strategy. Majhi highlighted the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, the establishment of Godabarisha Mishra Model Primary Schools and large-scale teacher recruitment.

In a major announcement, he declared that education from kindergarten to postgraduate level would be made completely free, a move he said would particularly benefit economically weaker sections and girls.

In healthcare, he pointed to the implementation of Ayushman Bharat-Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana, providing cashless treatment to millions of beneficiaries. The government has also expanded medical education through new medical colleges and healthcare infrastructure projects.

The Chief Minister stressed that infrastructure development remains a priority, with record capital expenditure allocations in the state budget. Thousands of kilometres of roads, bridges and major connectivity projects are under construction, alongside ambitious expressway plans aimed at accelerating economic growth.

Majhi also highlighted significant industrial progress, claiming that Odisha has attracted investment proposals worth ₹20 lakh crore through investor summits and roadshows. He said these investments have the potential to generate around 17 lakh employment opportunities, while hundreds of projects have already been approved and launched.

On governance, the Chief Minister emphasized transparency, public grievance redressal and citizen participation. He noted that direct public hearings have been revived and that thousands of grievances have been resolved. He also highlighted large-scale recruitment drives across government departments.

Majhi said Odisha is witnessing a new era of confidence, development and institutional reform. Expressing gratitude to the people of the state, he said that with the blessings of Lord Jagannath and the support of citizens, Odisha is firmly on track to achieve the goal of becoming a prosperous state by 2036.
