Paradip, March 21: Two ships, Ocean Jade and Ocean Morganite, were placed under arrest at Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Friday due to a maritime dispute. The arrest followed an order from the Orissa High Court and was executed in the presence of Kujanga Sub-Judge Chinmayee Panda.
The two vessels, both tugboats, were detained due to issues arising from a maritime contract and a commercial dispute. The case centers around a claim of ₹428 crore filed by Alphard Maritime Limited concerning the sale and purchase of seven tug vessels. Alphard Maritime, a leading company in maritime logistics and marine services, had filed a case demanding the outstanding dues of over ₹428 crore.
The vessels, Ocean Jade (an offshore supply ship) and Ocean Morganite (an anchor handling vessel), were passing near Paradip Port when Alphard Maritime sought their immediate arrest. The ships will remain detained at the port until the next hearing, scheduled for April 30.
Following the arrest, Sub-Judge Chinmayee Panda directed that the vessels be moved to the anchorage area of the port.
