Sonepur, May 31: A Subarnapur court on Friday pronounced its verdict in the long-pending and widely followed murder case of Dr. Durbadal Mishra, Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) and noted pediatrician, who was brutally killed in 2014. After nearly 11 years of legal proceedings, the Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADJ) Dillip Kumar Bishwal sentenced two of the accused to life imprisonment.

The incident occurred on the night of November 21, 2014, when Dr. Mishra was attacked and murdered in front of his residence in Subarnapur by a group of assailants. Following a police investigation, three individuals were arrested in connection with the crime.
In the final hearing held today, the court found Pratyush Panda alias Babulu and Ashok Sahu guilty, handing them both life sentences along with a fine of ₹25,000 each.
A third accused, who was a minor at the time of the crime, is currently facing trial in a juvenile court.
Public Prosecutor Kahneya Lal Pradhan represented the state, while Rajendra Agrawal appeared for the defense. During the trial, the court recorded depositions from 26 prosecution witnesses and three defense witnesses.
The judgment was delivered based on extensive witness testimony, material evidence, and circumstantial findings.
Dr. Mishra’s murder had sent shockwaves through the region, drawing widespread condemnation and public outcry. The conclusion of the trial marks a significant moment in a case that has lingered in public memory for over a decade.
