Mayurbhanj, May 28: At least two persons were killed and three others sustained critical injuries after a speeding truck rammed into a tractor in Betnoti area of Odisha's Mayurbhanj district this morning.
The deceased persons have been identified as Atul Bhartiya, from Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut, and Sundar Dod, from Haryana’s Karnal district. They were working as labourers with a contractor here.
As per reports, the mishap took place at around 5 AM on Wednesday when the victims were traveling on a tractor from Baripada to Balasore. A speeding truck rammed into the tractor and sped away from the spot.
The collision was so severe that the tractor was shattered into two pieces. In the mishap, two people died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries.
Upon receiving the information, Betnoti police immediately reached the spot and began rescue operations. The police seized the broken tractor and sent the bodies of deceased persons for post-mortem.
The injured persons are currently undergoing treatment at the Betnoti hospital.
A probe has been launched into the matter and efforts underway to track down the truck that caused the accident, said the police.
