Aska, May 14: In a tragic accident, two women lost their lives and fourteen others were severely injured after an auto they were travelling in overturned near Bhetanai under Kotinada police limits in Ganjam district late last night.
The deceased have been identified as Gayatri Gouda (25) and Sarojini Sahu (50), both residents of Bhetanai village.
According to reports, over 20 villagers from Bhetanai were travelling in the auto to Sanakholi to witness a religious yajna. While returning at night, the overloaded vehicle lost control and overturned near Bhetanai, resulting in the deaths of two and injuring 14 others.
All injured passengers were rushed to the Aska hospital for treatment. Of them, seven were later referred to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur due to critical injuries.
Being informed, police reached the spot, seized the bodies, and have launched an investigation into the incident.
