Jammu, April 22: At least two terrorists were killed and one security personnel was martyred after a fierce gun battle broke out between the security forces and the terrorists in Jammu city.
The slain militants were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Acting on a tip-off regarding the presence of terrorists in the Sunjwan area in the city, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the militant was hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire which was retaliated back triggering an encounter in which the militants were neutralised.
“Till now, two terrorists have been killed, two AK-47 rifles, arms and ammunition, satellite phones and some documents have been recovered,” said Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of Jammu zone.
“It seems like they were ‘Fidayeen’ attackers. Operation is underway,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Singh had informed that one security force jawan has been killed, and four others have been injured in the encounter in the Sunjwan area of Jammu on Friday.
Singh had also said that the terrorists were hiding in a house.
The operation is currently underway and more details in this regard are awaited.
