Balasore, Aug 27: In a major crackdown on illegal poaching, forest officials arrested two poachers for hunting animals in the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Balasore district.
The officials recovered a number of illegal hunting tools, including a loaded firearm, snares, and other lethal weapons along with a deer’s antlers from their possession and seized them.
The arrestees have been identified as Dam Samad and Sudarshan Bishwal, residents of Pindabasa village in Oupada block.
As per reports, the duo was apprehended after their activities were captured on a trap camera in August.
Sources said that the poachers were spotted hunting in the Kankadabalia area of Jharanaghati section on August 9. The trap camera installed by the Kuldiha Forest Department recorded their images, which led to their identification.
Following a detailed investigation, forest officials conducted a surprise raid on the morning of September 26 and arrested the two poachers.
A formal case has been registered, and the accused have been forwarded to court, said an official.
It is worth noting that the Kuldiha Wildlife Sanctuary is known for its rich biodiversity and is home to various endangered species.
