Hemgiri, May 25: A tragic incident has been reported from Nuadihi village under Hemgiri block of Sundargarh district, where two persons died and more than 30 others fell ill after reportedly consuming food at a funeral feast.

According to sources, the affected villagers complained of severe diarrhoea and vomiting soon after attending the community feast. While 15 patients have been admitted to hospital for treatment, around 28 others are undergoing medical care in the village itself.

Following the outbreak, medical teams rushed to the village and started emergency treatment and health monitoring. The Health Department has also begun sanitisation of village ponds, wells and tube wells to prevent further spread of the infection. Large sanitisation machines were deployed in the village during the night as part of precautionary measures.

Officials said special surveillance is being maintained to ensure the disease does not spread to nearby villages. The exact cause behind the outbreak is yet to be confirmed, and investigations are currently underway.

Meanwhile, water samples from the village are being tested, while medical teams are also collecting blood samples from residents for examination. Health authorities have intensified monitoring in the area to contain the situation.
