Cuttack, May 19: Two employees from the Cuttack District Collector’s office have been arrested for allegedly embezzling compensation funds meant for a rape survivor. The duo reportedly duped the survivor of ₹1 lakh, promising to expedite the release of the financial assistance.
The matter came to light after the survivor filed a written complaint at Lalbag Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police apprehended one accused on Sunday and the other on Monday.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Amiya Kumar Sahu and Sangeeta Singh. According to police sources, both have confessed to their involvement in the fraudulent transaction.
Additional DCP Amarendra Panda confirmed the arrests and said further investigation is underway.
