Bhubaneswar, Jan 16: Due to corona pandemic, the revenue collection by the Transport Department from April to October was much below the collection figures of previous year.
However, the trend has been reversed from November with a positive upward trend as the revenue grew at 3 percent in November and at 8 percent in December.
Rs 157 crore motor vehicle revenue has been collected in December 2020 comparing to Rs 146 crore in December 2019. Similarly, Rs 149 crore has been collected in November 2020 comparing to Rs 145 crore in 2019.
The progressive collection for first nine months of this fiscal comes to Rs 973 crore against Rs 1,295 crore collected in corresponding nine months of 2018-19, which is still 25 percent less.
During the nine months from April to December, Rs 615 crore has been collected from MV taxes, Rs 113 crore from fees, Rs 21 crore from enforcement (echallans) and the rest from share from national permits and other miscellaneous heads.
The state has recorded vehicle sales of 6.01 lakh in 2020 comparing to 8.25 lakhs sold in 2019. The vehicle sales has picked in October with sale of 72,000 vehicles in October, 69,000 in November and 54,000 in December.
