Transport dept asks DGP to implement lane driving in twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: The Commerce and Transport department has asked the Director General of Police (DGP) to implement lane driving in the twin cities if Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to reduce traffic congestion. A report on implementation of lane driving guidelines in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack will be submitted for apprising the Supreme Court Committee on the progress. Officials said that as many as 1040 road accidents are occurred due to wrong side driving and 445 persons were killed in those mishaps in 2019. “Strict implementation of lane driving regulations is of paramount importance for reduction of accidents and fatalities in the state. Lane driving will be implemented in the twin cities in the first phase and this will be implemented in other cities subsequently,” said an official.
