Baranga, June 4: A heart-wrenching incident has shaken Dadhapatna village under the jurisdiction of Baranga Police Station, after a 19-year-old girl attempted suicide following the sudden death of her father.
The young woman, devastated by the loss of both her parents—her mother having passed away years earlier, allegedly jumped into a well in the courtyard of their home on Monday. Her father's body was still lying at the doorstep when the incident occurred.
Family members and neighbors acted swiftly and managed to rescue the girl from the well. She was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Hospital sources say she narrowly escaped death and is now in stable condition.
Meanwhile, as the sister remained hospitalized, the family's youngest son carried out the last rites of their father. The incident has cast a deep pall of sorrow over the entire Baranga police station area.
