Puri, Aug 30: The sacred ‘Kukkutī Brata’ ritual was observed today at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on the occasion of Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha Saptami, also known as Lalitā Saptamī. Goddess Shri Devi traditionally performs this special ritual to receive the divine Agyan Mala.
As part of the ceremony, after receiving the Agyan Mala, the Mahajana Sevak ceremonially escorts the idol of Shri Devi in a palanquin to the outer mandapa of Mahalaxmi Temple, where the goddess is placed on a traditional wooden cot.
There, she undergoes a ritual bathing -Banakalagi and dressing. The Pujapanda Sevak then recites the sacred narrative of the ‘Kukkutī Brata,’ which is attentively heard by Goddess Lakshmi.
Following the completion of the rituals, the deity returns to the sanctum of the main temple. This age-old observance reflects the deep ritualistic traditions of Shree Jagannath Temple and reinforces the spiritual significance of divine command and ritual purity in temple worship.
