Bhubaneswar, Nov 15: In the OTT platform, keeping the audience engaged in the content is one of the biggest challenges for the makers, said Odia cine actor Partha Sarathi Ray.

On being asked about the future of the Odia cine industry, the actor said that the future of Odia OTT platforms is ‘bleak’ now. “When you visit a theatre, you at least watch 90 percent even if there is less audience. In OTT, the biggest challenge is to engage the audience. They have lots of options and platforms to skip to. If the audience gets bored, he/she will switch to other platforms,” Ray said.

“It’s hard on our part to match the national level projects. We have some limitations; however, we can engage Odia audience through good content and emotions.” Adding to this the actor said, “Recently, I came across some Odia OTT platforms, and those seem to be cheap and sleazy versions of some national OTT platforms.”

“If I want to watch some ‘sexual’ content, I would like to watch it on national OTT platform, where the quality is good, rather I would torture myself by paying to these platforms,” the actor expressed his displeasure on particular OTT platform which produces Odia content.

To make a good movie, we have to find out the story that can be produced within the budget without compromising the basic ethics of cinema i.e. video and audio, the actor said.

Besides, the actor spoke about his recently released Odia movie ‘Charitra’ and said, “I have been fortunate enough to work with like-minded people, and that gels well both onscreen and off-screen. The directors of the movie truly understand cinema logistics and this has resulted in a wonderful film with less budget,” Ray said.

A youth icon and role model for many budding actors, Partha started his acting journey in acting in 2006, when he was in Delhi. Then the Odia actor shifted to Mumbai and was cast in Arun Govil’s film U R My Jaan, Subhash Ghai’s Cycle Kick and Ajay Devgn’s Toonpur Ka Superhero, followed by advertisement and TV commercials in Mumbai.

However, he returned to Odisha and started off with movies like Nai Separi Kanak Gori and Gadbad. Currently, he is playing the lead role in an Odia daily soap and has many projects in his pockets for the future.
