Timber and accessories worth Rs 7.35 lakh seized from sawmill in Jajpur

Jajpur, July 8: Vigilance sleuths and forest officials today seized timber and accessories worth Rs 7.35 lakh from an illegal sawmill at Phulpur under Bari police limits in Jajpur district. On getting reliable information regarding the running of an illegal sawmill, a joint forest raid was conducted by the Forest Wing of Vigilance Directorate and Cuttack Vigilance Division with the assistance of local forest staff. The team found the sawmill of running without any valid license. During the raid, sawmill accessories along with timber of 27.58 Cft. worth Rs7.35 lakh was detected and seized. “The owner of the sawmill was absent. The sawmill was running in violation of Section 4 of the Saw Mill Sawpit (Control) Act, 1991, which is punishable under Section 14 of the said Act. In this connection, one forest case has been registered under Jajpur Road Range of Cuttack Forest Division and is under investigation,” said an official.
