Bhubaneswar: Tigress ‘Sundari’ who has been terrorising local people in Satkosia area will be kept in an enclosure at Raiguda after being tranquilised, said PCCF (wildlife) Sandeep Tripathy.
The tranquilising team comprising doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Nandankanan Zoological Park and gun assistants has camped in Angul. Another team is coming from Similipal. “We are waiting for district administration’s go-ahead as the village in Satkosia area is tense following death of a man in the attack allegedly by the tigress,” Tripathy added.
After tranquilising, next course of action will be taken after consultation with NTCA and Wildlife Institute of India. “We have written to the national authorities in this regard. Our first priority to safeguard the local resident and sedate the tigress,” he added.
The PCCF also requested the irate villagers to cooperate with the expert team in sedating the big cat.
Meanwhile, Athmallik MLA Sanjeev Sahu protested the tigress relocation. He said that the tigress is terrorising people residing in Satkosia area. He requested the chief minister of Odisha and the Centre to take necessary steps to take back the big cat from Satkosia area.
