Angul: Tension prevailed again in Satkosia Tiger Reserve area after a cow was found dead in Lehedi village of Athmallik forest range today morning.

Locals alleged that the cow was mauled to death by the Royal Bengal tigress ‘Sundari’.

According to sources, the cow was tied to a post outside the house. Villagers found the cow’s carcass today morning following which panic has gripped the area.

On being informed forest officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.

Notably, on September 12, the Royal Bengal Tigress which was relocated from Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia in a pilot inter-State transfer in the country allegedly killed a local woman here.

Notably, Kailashi Sai of Hatibari village in Tikarpara range under Anugul district went missing when she was taking a bath in a pond on Wednesday morning. A search by locals found her body, which they claim bore injury marks that could only be made by a big animal like tiger.

The 27-month-old Royal Bengal tigress Sundari was relocated to Satkosia from Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh as part of the State Government’s initiative to revive the big cat population in the State on August 17.
