Koraput, July 25: Fear has spread across villages along the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border in Koraput district after suspected tiger pugmarks were found in forest-fringe areas, raising concerns about the possible movement of a big cat.

According to local sources, villagers have reported spotting paw-like marks in and around Katriguda, Nuaguda and Bakatiguda villages near the Kundura border road. Several videos and photographs, claimed to show evidence of the animal's presence, have gone viral on social media, heightening anxiety among residents.

Forest department sources said suspected pugmarks were first noticed two days ago in an agricultural field adjoining the Atigaon forest in the Kundura area. A team of forest personnel inspected the site and began monitoring the area for further signs of wildlife movement.

However, forest officials have not confirmed whether the footprints belong to a Royal Bengal Tiger, a leopard, or any other wild animal. Rangers said it is difficult to identify the species solely from the paw marks, and a detailed examination is underway before any conclusion is drawn.

With no official confirmation so far, villagers remain apprehensive and have become cautious while venturing into nearby forests and farmlands. The Forest Department has stepped up surveillance and is closely monitoring the situation while urging residents to avoid spreading unverified information and to report any wildlife sightings immediately.

Authorities said further action will be taken once the investigation establishes whether a tiger or another wild animal is moving through the area.
