Bhubaneswar: The local Meteorological center issued thunderstorm and rainfall alert for four districts till 3.30 pm.“Moderate thunderstorm/lightning with light rainfall and gusty wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati between 12.30 pm and 3.30 pm,” warned the latest IMD bulletin.
The prediction came amid sweltering heatwave conditions in the State. There was no relief from the heatwave conditions as the sweltering heat intensified in most parts of the State on Monday with nine cities recording above 40 degree Celsius, Titliagarh, known as the heat island, becoming the hottest place at 45.5 degree Celsius in the State.
The maximum day temperature in Bolangir was recorded at 44 degree Celsius followed by Malkangiri 43.5 degree Celsius, Sonepur, Bhawanipatna and Sundergarh each recording 43 degree Celsius, Sambalpur 42.7 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda 42.6 degree Celsius and Hirakud 41.4 degree Celsius.
Meanwhile, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi directed district Collectors to remain alert and make provisions for drinking water facility to beat the heat.
