Nabarangpur: In a tragic incident, three minor girls lost their lives after drowning in a village pond at Kursi under Umarkote block of Nabarangpur district on Thursday.
According to reports, two daughters of Rajaman Gond and one daughter of Balsai Gond had gone to a nearby pond for bathing in the afternoon. While bathing, the three girls accidentally slipped into deeper water and drowned.
Locals present at the scene immediately rescued the girls and rushed them to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared all three brought dead.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with the bereaved families in deep shock and grief. The identities of the deceased are yet to be officially confirmed.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a similar tragedy was reported recently from Ganjam district, where two minor schoolgirls drowned in a pond at Patanda village under Digapahandi block. The girls had gone to bathe in the pond when they accidentally slipped into deep water. Despite rescue efforts, both were declared dead at the hospital, leaving the local community in shock and grief.
These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns over the safety of children near open water bodies, with locals calling for increased awareness and preventive measures.
