Nabarangpur, Aug 13: Three migrant labourers from Nabarangpur district of Odisha, lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Telangana on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Jayaram Bhatra, Narayan Bhatra, and Chetaman Bhatra, all residents of Bakadabeda under Umerkote police jurisdiction.
Reports suggest that the three were working on a roadside plantation project when a speeding goods truck struck them in the Sikandar Kaman area, located under the Keesara police limits in Telangana. The accident took place during the afternoon hours of August 11, while the workers were returning to their work site after lunch. Sadly, the impact of the collision left Jayaram, Narayan, and Chetaman dead on the spot. Other members of their workgroup narrowly escaped with minor injuries.
The Telangana Police swiftly reached the accident site, seized the truck involved in the crash, and transported the bodies to a nearby health centre for post-mortem. The bodies are expected to be brought back to their native village today.
According to sources, a group of 14 labourers from Bakadabeda had travelled to Telangana about 12 days ago to work as migrant workers. They were engaged in tree plantation work along roadsides in the Sikandar Kaman area.
Local authorities have informed the families in Bakadabeda about the tragedy. Arrangements have been made to transport the bodies back to Odisha in a dedicated ambulance, accompanied by the surviving workers from the group.
Since the news broke, the village of Bakadabeda has been in mourning. "They left home to earn a livelihood for their families. Now, they are returning as lifeless bodies. The accused should be arrested," said Sayendra Bhatra, son of the deceased Jayaram Bhatra.
