Bhubaneswar, Jan 12: The lockdown was never an easy period for one and all to be confined to own houses. All were struggling to find ways to spend their times. At this juncture, Alok Ranjan Padhi came with a noble idea to start free tutorial sessions for underprivileged children of his slum. Initially, it was not easy for Alok, born and brought up in Pathar Bandh slum in Vani Vihar area in the capital city, to convince parents to send their kids for classes. So, as an initiative to educate slum kids, he started to aware the slum dwellers about the importance of education and its importance for a good future. Later, they understood how lack of opportunities will harm the future of their kids of the slum. As the schools and colleges were closed, kids agreed to join the tuition. Alok was engaged in the marketing department of a city based private coaching center before Lockdown. He lost his job during that time. Sitting idle at home he decided to start a campaign to educate the kids of his slum free of cost. At first phase around 20 kids joined his free tutorial sessions and now he is teaching over 50 students and has plans to continue this in the morning and evening along with his job. Taking about this Chemistry graduate Alok said, “I am born and brought up in slum. Although my father was mason he never compromised in my education and I got a white-collar job. Now, it’s my dream to help every kid in my slum in getting proper education so that they can live upto their dream.”
