Bhubaneswar, June 23: The graph of Corona infection in Odisha is depleting day by day. The matrix of the rate of Covid-19 positive cases and the toll of death within last few weeks indicate so. However, the mutated form of the Novel Corona virus especially the Delta Plus Variant brings new worries for the state. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, the delta plus variant of Corona has been detected in as many as 80 countries across the world. Almost 200 delta plus variant affected cases have already been detected from nations including Nepal, USA, Britain, Switzerland, Portugal, Japan, China and the USSR. At the same time 30 cases have been recorded in India so far. Out of it, Maharastra has seen the highest Covid patients with the dangerous strain. It has already dealt with as many as 30 cases so far. Similary, as many as 9 cases with delta plus variant have been discovered in Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka. In case of Odisha, no such case has been detected despite a good number of suspected cases have been referred for Genome Sequencing since months. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has issued new advisory for the states to tackle the fierce Delta plus Variant. On the other hand, a consortium comprising 28 genome sequencing laboratories are analyzing the presence of the Delta Plus Variant with a good number of suspected samples. At the same time, the consortium is studying the efficacy of both vaccines on the patients with Delta Plus Variants. Subsequently, a new advisory along with the details of antibodies they develop with the Delta plus positive patients will be issued soon, said Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhusan. Meanwhile, Odisha government has relaxed some Covid-19 protocols and considers withdrawing impositions like the lockdown and shutdown after the first of July. However, the so called third wave and the fatal Delta Plus variant may bring new challenges for Odisha if it really buds in the state.
