Rourkela, Feb 17: Rourkela SP, Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo today suspended a SI of Udit Nagar police station in connection with the alleged third-degree torture of a minor boy at the police station. The SP today placed the SI Manas Nayak under suspension and issued notices to two home guards for personal appearance. The minor boy belonging to Rourkela Timber Colony was taken to the police station, where he was allegedly beaten and kicked. The Police instead of sending the boy to Swadhar Home, detained him inside the Police Station without providing him any food. Registering a suo motu case over the alleged assault on the minor boy, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has earlier issued notice to the Rourkela SP to launch an enquiry into the matter and submit report to the Commission by February 15.
