Angul, June 16: The only tigress which was inhabiting in the Satakosia wildlife sanctuary in Angul has gone missing. It has been revealed from the screen-out of the tiger from the CCTV surveillance since the last November. Sources said that the Satakosia wildlife division had brought a female tiger named Sundari from the Kanha sanctuary in Mahdya Pradesh in order to boost the breed of tigers in and around the Satakosia sanctuary. With the abnormal tendency of the tigress Sundari it was put into a special enclosure for observation in 2010. Meanwhile, another 3 year old female tiger from the Satakosia forest was found roaming around the enclosure of Sundari which was caught with the CCTV. It was also recorded that the tiger cub was more frequently trying to enter into the barbed enclosure to come in contact with the female tiger Sundari. According to the Satakosia forest officials, the female tiger has neither come into the purview of the CCTV footage nor has been spotted by the forest officials from the last November. Following this, the wildlife trackers made a frantic search operation to spot the tiger in and around the Satakosia area which is stretched over 800 square kilometres of deep forest. At the same time it’s not found in the nearby forests adjacent to the Satakosia including the Purunapani, Raiguda and the Panchadhara forest range of Athmallik. On the other hand the tiger has not been found during the tiger count/survey whichever begun today, said the Regional Chief Conservator of Forest (RCCF), Joga Nanda. The tiger survey will continue for the next seven days. If no information regarding the whereabouts of the tigress is gathered during the Tiger Census, something might have happened with the rare wildlife, Nanda added.
