It is a symptom of being chronically reactive in nature. The states, medical experts and of course politicians cutting across party lines, nobody can absolve its share of the blame. Suddenly waking up to the menace of the surging Corona in India and a belated exercise for restraints.
Bullet Is Out The Barrel Already!
There is no point in panic crying once the bullet is out of the barrel. And Corona has made its way amid the reckless election campaigns and the people who still refuse to learn from the past.
Media’s Selective Obsession
National televisions are back with raging debates pitching for the virtual campaigns in all the states going to the polls. Four round of polls are yet to be conducted in WB, can the Election Commission rise up to the exigencies and restrict campaigns in virtual mode only.
Where was the media role itself a month or two back when footsteps of the 2nd strain were audible already. As noticed, that the national media was obsessively busy in Nandigram fracas ignoring the Corona issue completely.
Rather the national media was on a war footing to cover the rallies etc in West Bengal and in other places, as if, the country has no other issues. Media had literally pitched it’s tents in WB in its seeming obsession with WB polls.
So does the parties at war. Any party never gave a damn to the Corona ghost for even a day nor did the media which was rejoicing its loyalty to their favourites.
Damage Is Done
It was in the pages of this news platform ( prameyanews.com) the pressing needs for virtual campaign were advocated a fortnight back.
Once the damage is done and the cases of Corona infection rose exponentially in all over the country , the governments have got up in a kneejerk to dress up the wounds . Delhi government is readying to impose harder restrictions to fight the further spread of the virus .
Experts from the medical fraternity has become late risers to warn the nation that elections campaign should have been stopped a month back. Now once the cat is out of the bag, they have become serious about the dangers the public rallies can create .
In fact, by the beginning of the year 2021 the wisdom should have been given a thought by the politicians themselves to stop public rallies and turn it virtual .
But semantics and symbolism remained the only way out and now there can be hardly any escape .
