Thar terror again! bull killed, biker dies after crash near Gudiapokhari

Bhubaneswar, August 19:A fatal road accident occurred on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway-316 near Gudiapokhari under the Kaushalyaganga police outpost in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, a Mahindra Thar travelling from Puri towards Bhubaneswar hit a bull and a motorcycle near Gudiapokhari. The bull died on the spot.

The motorcycle rider sustained critical injuries and was rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar. However, doctors declared him dead during treatment.

Police have seized both the Thar and the motorcycle and launched an investigation into the accident.

On May 23, 2026, a speeding Thar reportedly rammed into a roadside garage in Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, critically injuring two people. Police detained the driver, while liquor bottles were reportedly recovered from the vehicle.

Days later, on May 30–31, a 24-year-old youth was allegedly run over by a Thar in Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar. The incident was initially reported as a road accident but later took a major turn, with police investigating it as a murder case. Six people were subsequently arrested.

Earlier, in January 2026, Bhubaneswar witnessed two separate Thar crashes within around 24 hours. In one incident, a Thar hit a Bullet motorcycle near Capital Hospital Square, killing an 18-year-old. In another, a Thar crashed into a stationary trailer near Pitapalli, claiming the lives of three youths.

With another fatal Thar crash now reported near Gudiapokhari, questions are once again being raised over reckless driving and road safety in Odisha.
