Tehsildar in Kendrapara caught red-handed by Odisha Vigilance

Kendrapara, Sept 23: Tehsildar, Mahakalapada in Odisha’s Kendrapara district was caught red-handed by Vigilance on Tuesday while taking Rs 20,00 bribe.

The accused OAS Officer, identified as Siba Mallick was sent to judicial remand after his arrest by the vigilance sleuths.

According to a release issued by the Odisha Vigilance, Siba Mallick, Tehsildar, Mahakalpada was apprehended while demanding and taking bribe Rs 20,000 from a complainant for helping in eviction of an illegal structure over an encroached land obstructing the passage to his house.

In this connection,  the complaint had filed an encroachment case in the year 2024. Following this, the RI concerned had submitted a report in April 2024 to Tehsildar Mahakalpada confirming forcible encroachment of government land by some miscreants blocking the common road. Since then, the complainant was approaching Mallick requesting him to help in removing the illegal encroachment. However, the Tehsildar demanded a  bribe of Rs 20,000 to settle the matter.

Left with no other option, the affected man reported the matter to the Kendrapara Vigilance authorities. Based on this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Mallick today in his rest room inside the Tehasil Office while taking the bribe.

The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from the possession of Mallick.

Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at six locations linked to Mallick from DA angle.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.29/2025, U/s-7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered.

Further investigation is in progress in this connection to assay the illegal assets of the Tehsildar, read the release.
