Balasore, Aug 3: A teacher in Odisha’s Balasore district is collecting alms for funding a student’s heart surgery. The benevolent teacher has been identified as Ganesh Chandra Jena, a teacher of the Gangadharpur Primary School under the Basta block limit. Jena is found moving from village to village to collect financial assistance for the invasive surgery of a peer Student, named Madhusmita who is a student of Class-III of the school. Sources said that Madhusmita (7) is one of the dearer students of the school as she was not only good at her studies but also a front-liner in almost all the co-curricular activities. However, all of the students and teachers of the institute felt the absence of Madhusmita when she stopped coming to school, who never misses a single day ever before. {"id":202689,"width":839,"height":464,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} When the teachers enquired about her absence, they came to know that Madhusmita has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital due to her heart-related problems. Moreover, they were informed that Madhusmita needs an invasive surgery which costs tens of thousands of rupees, in order to save her life. However, the poor parents expressed their inability to afford the costly treatment as her father is a daily wager. Following this, teacher Jena assured them to have patience and started begging for financial assistance for the girl. Subsequently, he launched a campaign, holding a portrait of the little girl accompanied by her aunt, in the nearby localities. Aware of the miserable condition of the child, people started helping her. As a result, Madhusmita was admitted to a heart care hospital for her surgery. {"id":202690,"width":836,"height":457,"sizeSlug":"full","linkDestination":"none"} “The meritorious student’s life is a top priority for me and our institution. Anyway, her surgery should be safely performed. I think God will surely help the poor guy to recover soon”, said Jena while begging alms from door to door. Locals of the Balasore district have applauded the noble venture of the teacher.
