Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is preparing for his maiden official trip to India between August 20 and August 25. Diplomatic teams in Dhaka and New Delhi are actively working out the final timetable to enable this critical bilateral summit. Both administrations have shown strong interest in arranging high-level talks, though scheduling conflicts had previously held up progress. Officials in New Delhi confirm that two clear windows are now under consideration review, its August 20-21 or August 21-22.

Strategic Consultations In New Delhi And Dhaka

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi is expected to help fix the final dates once he resumes duties in Dhaka. Trivedi met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on August 11, following a formal discussion with Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat. If confirmed, this summit marks Rahman's first official visit to India since he assumed office in February. Bilateral relations between the two neighbours remain vital for regional security, trade connectivity, and border stability across South Asia.

Regional Ties and Extradition Requests

Recent developments have added diplomatic weight to the planned bilateral dialogue. Dhaka recently reiterated its call for India to speed up the extradition process for former leader Sheikh Hasina during official discussions at the Prime Minister's Office. Meanwhile, New Delhi has maintained a clear official distance from political discussions hosted by private forums. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that the Indian government has no connection with events organised by independent media groups. Formal clearance from India's Ministry of External Affairs is expected soon as diplomatic channels finalise summit preparations.
