Bhubaneswar, July 16: Talcher Railway Station in the Angul district has been transformed into a modern, passenger friendly transport hub under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
Redeveloped at an approximate cost of ₹13 crore, the project reflects the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create world class, inclusive, and future ready railway stations that preserve and promote local heritage.
The comprehensive redevelopment focuses on enhancing both operational efficiency and the passenger experience.
Installation of a 12 metre wide Foot Over Bridge (FOB) equipped with lifts to ensure barrier free access for all travelers. Construction of a new station building, widened approach roads to streamline traffic, and the upgrading of platforms with improved shelters. Implementation of renovated waiting halls, contemporary toilet facilities, and standardized, easy to navigate passenger information signage, meticulously redesigned circulating and parking areas will facilitate a seamless transition for commuters.
Beyond its technical upgrades, the station serves as a canvas for the region’s artistic legacy. Visitors can experience the vibrant Dalkhai and Sambalpuri folk traditions, admire the timeless craftsmanship of Sambalpuri handloom textiles, savour authentic Odia delicacies such as Pakhala Bhata, Chhena Poda and Dalma and explore nearby attractions including Satkosia Tiger Reserve, Deulajhari Hot Springs and ancient temples that reflect Odisha's spiritual and historical legacy.
The transformation of Talcher Railway Station stands as another significant milestone in Indian Railways' journey towards providing world class infrastructure and delivering a safer, smarter and more comfortable travel experience for every passenger.
Talcher Railway Station is among the 59 Railway stations in Odisha being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and is one of the stations to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister on 17th July’2026.
