Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Swastik Pati is the lone player from the state to earn a place in the Indian team for the prestigious 11th Asian Youth Handball Championship is scheduled to be held from August 20 to 31 in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
The selection trials for the Indian team were conducted on July 18 and 19. Subsequently, the training camp began on July 20 at Pawana Handball Academy in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Swastik impressed during the camp with his performance and secured his place in the 18-member Indian squad.
It may be recalled that in 2022, Odisha’s first star handball player, Aryan Brahmin, created history by earning a place in the Indian team. Swastik is currently training under Odisha’s first international coach, Gouri Shankar Mishra.
Congratulating Swastik on his achievement, Odisha Handball Association president Biplab Choudhury, secretary Er. Manas Kumar Singh, treasurer Sitendranath Das, Bhubaneswar Handball Association secretary Prashant Kumar Nayak and coach Gouri Shankar Mishra extended their best wishes to him.
