Balasore, Jan 14: Months after being suspended from Biju Janata Dal (BJD), former Balasore MLA Jiban Pradip Dash today rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Dash formally joined the saffron party in presence of Union Minister Pratap Sarangi.
On November 5, 2020, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik had suspended Dash for his anti-party activities. On the following day, he had resigned from the primary membership of the party.
He was earlier elected to the state assembly on BJP ticket in 2000. However he lost to Orissa Gana Parishad candidate Arun Dey in the next assembly election in 2004.
Later, he joined the BJD and was elected to the state assembly on the party ticket in 2009. However, he was defeated in the 2014 election by BJP candidate Madan Mohan Dutta. But the seat fell vacant following death of Dutta. In the 2020 by election, BJD nominee Swarup Kumar Das won the seat defeating Dutta’s son and BJP nominee Manas Dutta.
Former MLA Dash, who was denied party ticket, was accused of indulging in anti-party activities and campaigning against the BJD nominee. He was therefore suspended on the charge of anti-party activities.
