Suspected Bangladeshi national’s illegal house demolished in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur

Bhubaneswar, November 17: The Jagatsinghpur district administration on Monday demolished the illegally constructed house of a suspected Bangladeshi national in Beherampur Basti, under the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. The operation, overseen by the Magistrate and Sub-Collector, involved the use of a bulldozer to raze the structure, part of a larger crackdown in which a total of 10 houses were demolished.

The house, which had been standing for four years, was reportedly built unlawfully by the primary accused, Sikandar Alam alias Siku. Authorities allege that Alam had brought Bangladeshi migrants into the area and employed them in various jobs. The illegal occupation came to light after officials rescued several children who were identified as non-Indian nationals just days earlier.

The operation faced resistance when police and administration officials, who had visited the site to investigate the unauthorized construction, were attacked. The assault resulted in the injury of the Additional SP. During a subsequent raid, a firearm and several sharp weapons were seized from the premises.

In the wake of the incident, the district administration ordered the demolition of the property and took a strong stance against the illegal use of electricity. The Tehsildar confirmed that the demolition drive would extend across the district, with four individuals detained for questioning. Efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing.
