Supreme Court Special Lok Adalat Settles 400+ Cases on Day 1 of Samadhan Samaroh 2026

Supreme Court initiative resolves over 400 pending disputes amicably

More than 400 pending legal disputes found amicable resolution on Friday during the opening day of the Supreme Court's Special Lok Adalat. This three-day legal exercise falls under the broader "Samadhan Samaroh 2026" initiative, designed to encourage consensual settlements and reduce the burden of prolonged litigation. In India, where millions of cases languish in courts for years, alternative dispute resolution mechanisms offer a crucial pathway to faster, accessible justice.

Sixteen dedicated benches, each featuring two Supreme Court judges working alongside senior advocates and other legal professionals, handled over 600 listed matters. The categories addressed spanned a wide legal spectrum, including matrimonial disagreements, property conflicts, motor accident claims, and land acquisition issues. Tax, service, and labor-related matters also featured prominently on the docket for the day.

Operating under the guidance of Chief Justice Surya Kant, the program emphasizes a pre-settlement dialogue. Legal teams engage litigants beforehand to explore the possibility of a mutually agreeable outcome. During the proceedings, the benches actively facilitate conversations between the involved parties, steering them toward consent-based solutions rather than adversarial rulings.

This special drive reflects the top court's ongoing commitment to integrating mediation and participative justice into the national legal framework. By providing a platform for constructive dialogue, the court aims to alleviate the stress of lengthy judicial processes and deliver satisfactory outcomes for all parties involved. The Special Lok Adalat is scheduled to continue its operations through August 23.
