New Delhi, August 31:The Judicial Infrastructure Advisory Committee, constituted by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to draw up a roadmap for modernising the country’s courts, submitted its interim report to the CJI on Monday.

The committee was set up on May 12, 2026, and is headed by Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar. Its members include Justice Debangsu Basak of the Calcutta High Court, Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, and Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan of the Bombay High Court.

Director General of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) Satinder Pal Singh and Supreme Court Secretary General Bharat Parashar, who is also the committee’s Member Secretary, are part of the panel.

The committee has drawn up a blueprint aimed at tackling infrastructure shortages in courts and securing significant government funding for their modernisation.

According to a Supreme Court press release, the panel was tasked with identifying infrastructure gaps that affect the delivery of justice and recommending facilities for judges, court staff, lawyers, litigants and visitors.

Its mandate also included proposing measures to strengthen computerisation under the e-Courts initiative, expand citizen-centric services and address the digital divide.

The committee examined proposals for developing modern court complexes, upgrading existing facilities and improving working conditions for judicial and administrative staff.

The broader objective is to create a more efficient and accessible justice delivery system by strengthening court infrastructure and integrating modern technology into judicial functioning.

Chief Justice Surya Kant had directed the committee to submit its interim report by August 31.
