New Delhi, October 11: Supreme Court Judge BV Nagarathna has expressed deep concern over the worsening sex ratios in several Indian states, attributing the trend to harmful practices such as female infanticide and foeticide. She emphasized the need for a society where girls not only survive but thrive, urging for a supportive environment that fosters their growth and potential.
Justice Nagarathna's remarks were made during the national annual stakeholders consultation on "Safeguarding the Girl Child: Towards a Safer and Enabling Environment for Her in India." The event, aimed at addressing crucial issues concerning the girl child, was organized by the Juvenile Justice Committee of the Supreme Court in partnership with UNICEF India.
The consultation was attended by key figures, including Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi, Justice JB Pardiwala (member of the Juvenile Justice Committee), and other distinguished Supreme Court judges.
