Angul: Police resorted to lathicharge after agitators protesting the killing of a man by tigress Sundari pelted stones at police vehicle. People from both the sides were injured in the incident today evening.
Sources said the villagers of Tainsi in Satkosia were protesting the death of one Trinath Sahu (60) by placing the body on the road at Mundasahi. They were demanding immediate shifting of tigress Sundari from Satkosia.
However, tension ensued between the protestors and police personnel after the later tried to clear the road.
Notably, panic gripped Satkosia again after tigress Sundari allegedly mauled Trinath today morning when he had gone for fishing on the village outskirts.
Angry over the fresh mishap, enraged villagers detained and thrashed the Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) who rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation after being informed about the incident.
The tigress brought from Bandhavgarh tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh mauled a 35-year-old woman to death on September 12 at Hatibari village following which the villagers ransacked the Tikarpada range office and burnt down forest rest house.
Since then the villagers are been demanding shifting the tigress out of the Satkosia landscape.
Scientists of Wildlife Institute of India (WII) also rushed to Satkosia and closely monitored Sundari’s movement then.
After the fresh mishap villagers in around 200 villages in Satkosia landscape are under fear.
Sundari was brought from Bandhavgarh on June 29 and was released to wild after lodging it in enclosure for nearly two months in order to increase tiger population.
