SUM surgeons perform rare surgery

Bhubaneswar, May 27: Surgeons at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here performed a rare surgery on a 41-year-old man on Tuesday to remove a six cm long cystic mass found on the left adrenal gland. The patient from Kharagpur in West Bengal, complaining of abdominal pain, was admitted into the hospital on Saturday while investigations revealed the tumour. Dr. Satya Mohapatra, HOD, Radiology department detected the tumor through CT scan. The team of surgeons, led by Dr. Jitendra Narayan Senapati, Department of General Surgery, successfully conducted the laparascopic adrenalectomy, a complex procedure in which the abdominal cavity is approached through a small incision to extract the mass. The patient, Sanjib Kumar Singh, was recovering well and would require shorter hospital stay. The team included Dr. J.R.Pani, Dr. Binay Konar, Dr. Sunil Kar, Dr. Sonali Mohanty, Dr. Kishan Reddy and Dr. Saurabh Tripathy.
