Berhampur, May 29: Police on Friday recreated the crime scene in connection with the sensational murder of Gopalpur plot businessman Sudhir Patra after two accused, Mukesh Sahu and Sumit Singh alias Sunil Rajput, were taken on a two-day remand.
The crime scene reconstruction was carried out on the Bhabinarayanpur–Bangaan–Mandiapalli road in the presence of senior police officials, including ASP Alok Jena, Sadar SDPO Shubhranshu Sekhar Parida, Gopalpur IIC Satya Ranjan Lenka, and other police personnel.
During the recreation, accused Sumit Singh alias Sunil Rajput demonstrated how Sudhir Patra was allegedly abducted from the spot, while co-accused Mukesh Sahu remained inside the police vehicle. Police said they gathered crucial details related to the abduction and subsequent murder during the exercise.
Earlier, police had arrested nine accused in the case, including Sudhir Patra’s niece Nibedita Patra, her cousin Tushar Kumar Patra, and several others from different parts of Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. The accused had already been forwarded to court.
Subsequently, police arrested four more absconding accused — Mukesh Sahu, Sumit Singh alias Sunil Rajput, Ranjan Mallik, and Saroj Panda — from Rajasthan and brought them to Berhampur on transit remand.
On May 24, while being transported near Ratanpur, accused Ranjan Mallik and Saroj Panda allegedly attempted to escape after asking police to stop the vehicle to relieve themselves. The duo reportedly tried to snatch a firearm from police personnel, leading to an encounter in which both sustained injuries.
Ranjan Mallik and Saroj Panda are currently undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
