Cuttack, May 19: Students of the Ravenshaw University in Cuttack have staged a hunger strike on Thursday demanding regular opening of the main gate of the varsity. As the Varsity authorities did not address the problem of the students despite frequent appeals followed by dharnas and protests, a handful of students underwent hunger strike from the morning with submitting a memorandum in this connection. The memorandum read, three front gates of the University are being closed in the evening whereas the back gate(No. 6) is remaining open for the boarders. As a result, the students face problems to enter the hostels. Apart from it, there is a liquor shop besides the gate no.6 which creates problems for the students as unsocial elements crowd near the counter in the evening. Responding to the student’s demand, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Nayak accompanied by Chief Waden, Prof. Pritirekha Dasburma discussed with the student union, but in vain. The hunger strike is continuing so far, as the students insisted to fulfil their demand soon.
