​​​​​​​Bhubaneswar, August 12: Students of University Law College, a constituent college of Utkal University, staged a protest on Wednesday over alleged discrimination in the Welcome ceremony, Farewell ceremony, and long-standing issues related to hostel facilities, library resources, and campus infrastructure.

The protesters alleged that the administration had restricted the freshers’ party to second-year students, excluding senior batches. They said this would limit interaction, guidance and mentorship between juniors and seniors.

Students also raised concerns over poor-quality hostel food despite paying around Rs 18,000, unhygienic washrooms, inadequate sanitation and snakes near the hostel premises. They further alleged a shortage of essential books in the library and inadequate classroom facilities, including a lack of fans.

The students demanded immediate action to improve hostel conditions, library resources and campus infrastructure. They also urged the administration to reconsider the freshers’ party decision, saying anti-ragging measures should not prevent healthy interaction between students.

Principal had not issued an official response to the allegations till the filing of the report.
