Biting cold and morning fog persist across several Odisha districts
Winter has tightened its grip across the state, with the latest Odisha Weather Update confirming a significant drop in night temperatures. The hill station of G. Udayagiri has emerged as the coldest spot, recording a bone-chilling 2.5°C. Meanwhile, Phulbani remains the coldest in the plains, with the mercury hitting 5.0°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has officially declared that cold wave in Odisha conditions are currently prevailing in isolated pockets. Residents in districts like Angul, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, and Jharsuguda are feeling the sharpest sting of this icy spell. Interestingly, while the nights are freezing, Jharsuguda also recorded the state's highest maximum temperature at 29.7°C, showing a massive gap between day and night conditions.
In the Twin Cities, the Bhubaneswar weather report shows a minimum of 9.4°C, matching historical lows for this time of year. Cuttack followed closely with a minimum of 9.6°C. Dry weather continues to dominate the landscape, providing no immediate relief from the parched winter air.
The IMD fog forecast Odisha indicates that while the weather remains dry, visibility will be a concern in the coming days. Moderate fog has already been reported in Bhawanipatna and Phulbani. Looking ahead:
Regarding the temperature trend, the IMD predicts no major shift in night temperatures for the next 48 hours. However, a slight relief is on the horizon as temperatures are expected to rise by 2-3°C during the subsequent two days before stabilizing again. This winter in Odisha remains one of the most intense in recent years, prompting authorities to advise caution during early morning travel.
