Special drive against riding without helmet in Odisha from August 16

Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: The State Transport Authority (STA) has decided to launch a special drive against riding without helmet from August 16. The drive will continue till August 30. The STA has asked the concerned Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to submit daily compliance reports. As per official statistics, as many as 1308 persons, including riders (868) and pillion riders (440) of two-wheelers were killed in road accidents in 2021 in Odisha. Most of the victims were without helmet and most of the accidents taking place on national highways, state highways involve two-wheelers. The STA has asked the RTOs to launch the drive with focus on national highways, state highways. It has also asked to act tough on juveniles riding motorcycles. “Driving license of riders driving without wearing helmet will be suspended for a period of three months in accordance with the direction of Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety,” said an official.
