Cuttack, Sep 9: A son has no right to stay at the parents’ house if he tortures his elderly parents, said the Orissa High Court on Thursday. Hearing a petition filed by a group of senior citizens on behalf of the tortured parents, Justice Biswajit Mohanty issued orders to oust the offending son from the parental building within three weeks. At the same time, the High Court issued instructions to the police to ensure social security and protection of the senior citizens. Sources said, elderly parents of Gandamunda, Bhubaneswar had lodged a complaint at Khandagiri police station against their younger son, who allegedly tortured them to make over the residence to him. However, the police took no step over it. That is why a forum of senior citizens approached the police to assist the distressed complaint, but in vain. Subsequently, they met the Khordha District Collector to expedite it. However, they got no suitable response in this connection. Meanwhile, the degree of torture to the old parents became intolerable. Getting no way out, the senior citizens filed a petition in the Orissa High Court praying for justice to them. Hearing on it, the High Court issued orders to evict the errant son and the concerned daughter-in-law within three weeks time, said the order.
